Hey everyone, just so you know The Echo team want's to hear from you in order to improve our podcast. Please leave a compliment, comment, complaint, etc. so we can continue to improve.
Best episode yet. Mostly because of Fybrile's rage. Best part was that I sympathized almost completely with it. Hope to see more rage and controversy in future eps.
My input on the topic is the following:
Things I missed about FFXI:
-Party Dynamics: Was awesome to see how different party comps resulted in very different tactics. Party comps in FFXIV are so "vanilla" (hoping i used that correctly).
-Exclusivity: As someone else stated, the feeling of accomplishment and exclusivity you get when you accomplished something...like getting AF is something I don't necessarily get very often in FFXIV.
Main reason I'm playing FFXIV instead of FFXI:
-I can have a life and still progress at a fair rate
-Faster paced battles
-FC's are more established than LS's were in FFXI (I don't know if that changed after I quit).
-More customization options (although still limited in general).
Sorry about the long break. We hope to make it up to everyone with a quick release of Episode 6 (you may even see it before the end of the week!)
Well said about XI. I remember the same feelings about that game, especially the sense of accomplishment. That sense of accomplishment, and the longer intervals between benchmarks, was wonderful. But, to be honest, in a game where I'm not only encouraged to level up mutlitple classes BEFORE endgame, but required to, I think the current length is great. I think a lot of players maybe have only levelled 1 class, or are Veteran players who already have their classes at max level, because, while the first class is admittedly very quick to level up, the second class after around level 12 becomes a lengthy grind. At least, that's what I've found.
Anyways, it's great to hear from a listener. Hope you'll like the new segments we're adding in Episode 6!
So nice to hear you guys come back after a break, really liking this episode, listening now.
Adding my thoughts to the XI v. XIV debate:
XI was amazing for it's time and there are certain feelings that XIV doesn't give me that XI did. (Jeuno first trip, Chocobo felt like real accomplishment, Seeing that big ass white bone thing at early levels and not knowing what it is)
That being said XIV is a much more playable game in small doses, things don't feel quite as significant when you complete them but ther e is so much more to do for so many different play types. I'm loving this game, just not in the same way as I loved XI and I'm okay with that. XI is clearly the past, XIV has my total attention, XI has a very fond place in my memory.
Last notes:
Yes after level 5 in XI I would have felt very much on my own if not for that now classic strategy guide. I remember being in awe at all there was to do, figuring it all out shouldn't have been so tricky though.
Laughed out loud at the "kill things in a corner" description, so damn true.
NO NOTORIOUS MONSTERS... GOD DO YOU NOT REMEMBER THE PAIN OF THAT?
